Amherst Squirts open playoffs with 4-3 shootout win The Amherst Squirt AA's were down, 3-2, to Rochester with less than a minute to go but it was no time to panic. With goalie Cam Carney on the bench and 37 seconds remaining, Connor Bender (Nick Carbone, Connor Wagner) scored to send the game into overtime. In the shootout, Carbone and Bender scored on dekes and Carney foiled Rochester on their two attempts to push the Knights into the semifinals against the No. 1 seeded Tonawanda Lightning. Josh Knauf and Carbone scored the other two Amherst goals with Dylan Wild, Alex Tzetzo, and Ben Levy Tonawanda 1, Amherst Minor 'AA' 0 The Amherst Minor Squirt Minor AA's fell to the Tonawanda Lightning, 1-0, in the semifinals on Sunday afternoon at the Cheektowaga Town Rink. It was a battle of goaltenders as Jacob Siegel from Amherst and Bradley Hermann from Tonawanda were each stellar. The game remained tied until Connor Zak scored for Tonawanda with 1:12 left on the clock. With Siegel pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Amherst peppered Hermann with a barrage of shots but could not score the equalizer. The top-seeded Lightning move into the finals next weekend in Cheektowaga. |
