Knights of Columbus Diocesan holds free throw contest

Knights of Columbus members from Our Lady of Hope Council, Kenmore Ave., Kenmore, hosted the 2008 Diocesan Free Throw Contest for boys and girls ages 10-14 on Saturday.
The girl winners were Emma Storm, (10-year-olds); Michaela Wozniak, Lancaster (11-year-olds); Laura Mattison (12-year-olds); Emily Cardullo (13-year-olds); and Natalie Burns (14-year-olds).
The boy winners were Kyle Martinsen, Williamsville (10-year-olds); Jacob Concannon, Lancaster (11-year-olds); Cory Cullen (12-year-olds); Jake Czuprynski, Lancaster (13-year-olds); and David Scarcello (14-year-olds).
Williamsville's Charles Esposito, former state advocate and current state humane action chairman; Orchard Park's John Sowinski, state youth auxiliary chairman; Kenmore's Peter Glose, free throw coordinator; District Deputy Lou Huber, 73rd New York District; District Deputies Leo Kilmer, of 74th New York District and Mark Walter, 76th New York District assisted during the shootout. Other Knights assisting during the shootout were Peter Kuszczak, Al Ricotta, Tony Curella, Timm Ciffos, Frank Kovacs, Thomas Sheehan and Chris Pricha.
Diocesan winners will now compete in the Upstate Regional Shoot-Out on March 29 at Bishop Ludden High School in Syracuse. The state finals are April 5 at the West Point Military Academy.
Prior to Saturday, several children competed in the Council's free throw competition at Nativity of Mary School, Harris Hill.
Rylee Moser (10-year-old girls); Kyle Martinsen (10 year-old boys), Williamsville; Kristen Hamilton (12-year-old girls) Clarence; Katherine Kolber (13-year-old girls), Clarence; Frank Sardina (13-year-old boys), Lancaster; and Tim Schifferle (14 year old boys), Clarence won their age groups.
The competition was headed up by Nativity Physical Education instructor John Grismala and assisted by other members of the school staff. Council championship certificates were presented to each of the winners.
