Titans set new Niagara district record The Town of Tonawanda Titans attended the STAR A-B-C swim meet Feb. 15-17. Five hundred forty-eight athletes competed and sixty-five were Titan swimmers. Over the course of the meet, there were 181 lifetime best swims, one new Niagara District record and seven new Titans' club records set. All Titan swimmers listed are from Amherst. Allison Kopas, Lauren Phillips and Allison McCarthy were all part of the women's 10 and under 400 medley relay that set a Niagara District record. Phillips swam three United States Eastern zone qualifying times. Aleza Epstein and Emily Kopas were part of the women's 11-12 400 medley relay that set a new Titans' club record. Kopas had United States Eastern zone qualifying times in the 200 backstroke and 50 and 100 breaststroke. Epstein had six personal best swims. Jacob Hofmar-Glennon slashed 34.62 seconds from three events, all "A" level swims. Hofmar-Glennon swam United States Eastern zone qualifying "AAA" times in the 100 and 200 back. Clare Battaglia swam all personal best times. Hayley Hofmar-Glennon cut 9.45 seconds from her 200 freestyle and earned a first. Haley Epstein cut 9.57 seconds from two events. Lara Juhasz eliminated 4.44 seconds from her 100 individual medley. Jenny Rogers dropped 4.33 seconds from her 100 and 200 individual medley. Emily Smith had two personal best swims. Alaina Laszewski had a personal best 50 backstroke. Nicole Malkowski's 500 free was a personal best "A" time. Nina Anders persisted through two events. Abigail MacDonald swam an "AA" time in the 100 back. Peter McCarty soared through his 200 butterfly. Kara Powalski was a delight in three events. Erin Rogers cruised through four events.
