Thief desperate for white teeth

(Editors note: The Bee's police blotter is a sampling of unusual, sometimes humorous calls received by the police department. It is not intended to be a complete record of all incidents reported.)

Friday, Feb. 15

• Police were twice called to American Campus Drive where a man was sitting in the hallway, knocking on doors. The second time he was removed from the building.

• A Saratoga Road resident complained about youths in the park making a lot of noise.

• An Arlington Road resident reported that her neighbor's six dogs are always running loose. She complained that three of the dogs had been in her yard and one was still there. Both parties were advised.

• An eye center on Niagara Falls Boulevard reported that two eyeglass frames had been stolen.

Saturday, Feb. 16

• Police responded to a business on Sheridan Drive after a report that a sweet 16 party with 40 people in attendance had erupted into a fight. The group dispersed when the patrol arrived.

• A man shopping at a convenience store on Eggert Road complained to police that there was one clerk and 30 people in line and some customers were walking out of the store without paying for items. The complainant didn't want to wait for police. When patrols responded, the clerk said there was no problem.

• A fire alarm was activated at the Pepsi Center. It was reportedly caused by steam from the Zamboni room.

• A Le Brun Road resident reported that a pine tree had been cut down and taken sometime the day before. The neighbors had not seen anything either.

Sunday, Feb. 17

• Shoplifting was reported at a store on Maple Road. A man in his mid 20s left on foot, with his jacket loaded with Crest White Strips.

• A woman called police to report that her son had gone downtown the night before with friends and never returned home to Larch Road. She had tried his friends and a hospital and wasn't able to collect any information. He finally contacted her and said everything was OK.

• A motorist reported that she thought she saw someone driving a pickup truck on the ice on Ellicott Creek near Old Niagara Falls Boulevard.

• On Black Spruce Court, someone reported spotting an object floating in the lake and didn't know if it was a human or animal. Police located a box and some debris but nothing suspicious.

• Police were called to Campbell Boulevard where someone - possibly drunk - had driven into a fence and was trying to leave but was stuck on the lawn.

Monday, Feb. 18

• An intoxicated woman was picked up by a cab on Surrey Run to go to Lockport after she had been throwing things around the house.

• Extensive damage to a door and interior of an apartment was reported by a Brittany Drive property owner. The complainant thought it might have been done by a tenant who had been evicted.

• A Little Robin Road resident reported that her vehicle had been borrowed by a homeless friend yesterday and had not been returned. She wanted the vehicle reported stolen.

• On Alberta Drive, a business' alarm was ringing. It was set off by employees who had not been told the codes were changed.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

• A Union Road resident told police she and her 27-year-old son were having an argument about chores so she called 911. The mother was in the laundry room when police arrived and was calm at the time. She said she was upset about being sick and not getting much help around the house.

• Police responded to a store on Sheridan Drive after being notified about a man who had been standing by a pay phone for two and a half hours screaming at the phone and pacing. The suspect, who claimed to be having phone problems, was advised.

• A Maple Road resident complained that a county plow threw snow and ice on her sidewalk and she received a citation from the town Building Department.

• The Little Robin Road resident who reported that her car was stolen by a homeless friend, said it had been returned.

Wednesday, Feb. 20 • A 911 call was placed from a Yale Avenue address. A mother was teaching her child how to call for emergency help.

• A call was placed from Main Street about an injured person who was possibly struck by a car. The man actually slipped on ice and was being helped by a neighbor, who is a doctor.

• An alarm at an Autumn Creek Court residence was set off by an unconfined cat.

• A woman reported that her coat had been taken from her doctor's waiting room on College Parkway. The coat had been taken by mistake by a male patient who returned it to the office.

Thursday, Feb. 21

• A welfare check was requested on Sweet Home Road by a passing motorist who reported that a person was ice fishing alone in the middle of the pond. Police advised the fisherman.

• A woman reported that her purse fell off the hood of her car somewhere between home and a car wash on Sheridan Drive. She called back to say she called her cell phone, which someone answered, and the individual said he would return the purse.
