Donald L. Schieve, physician assistant, paramedic

Donald L. Schieve, of Buffalo and Port Colborne, Ontario, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 in Sisters of Charity Hospital.

Mr. Schieve was born in Oxnard, Calif. He graduated from Niagara County Community College, Emergency Technology Training of Western New York, Western New York Emergency Medical Services Training Institute and Buffalo State College.

He worked as an emergency medical technician and a paramedic for Gold Cross Ambulance and Rural Metro Ambulance Services before attending Kettering College of Medical Arts to become a physician assistant.

Mr. Schieve later worked at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital, Erie County Medical Center and Sisters of Charity Hospital.

He was an active member of Kintora Judo Club and won medals in the Empire State Games.

Mr. Schieve is survived by his wife, Anita; son, Aaron; parents, Harold and Kathleen Rhinehart; brother, John; and sister, Elizabeth Snyder.

Services were held Tuesday at St. Andrew's Church.
