Witness sought to accident that injured teen

A 15-year-old girl was crossing Sheridan Drive at Sweet Home Road Saturday evening with a friend when she was struck by a passenger vehicle.

Maria Yochelson, of Amherst, was transported by Twin City Ambulance to Erie County Medical Center where she underwent surgery for a broken leg. As of Monday, she was listed in fair condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Paul Wopperer, 55, of Williamsville, and a passenger in his car were uninjured.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Amherst Police Department at 689-1311. Senior Investigator Kevin Murphy is working on the investigation.
