Town hypocrisy shown in citations

I have lived on Markley Drive in Getzville for more than 19 years and had an independent contractor plow my driveway when it snows more than 3 inches. In those 19 years, the condition of my front sidewalk has never been an issue to me, my neighbors or the Building Department of the Town of Amherst. I have no idea why the Building Department is now harassing me and my neighbors concerning our front sidewalks.

My neighbors and I live in an extremely quiet neighborhood with very little traffic, only neighbors going to and from their homes, the Postal Service delivering mail and the occasional delivery truck. So if the sidewalks for whatever reason - no matter what season of the year - have been unusable, the neighbors have used the streets for walking. Again, no one has had a problem with using the streets for the last 19 years that this development has been here.

Why are the taxpaying citizens of the Town of Amherst being harassed for having sidewalks in front of their houses. What about streets such as Haussauer, Dodge, Millersport, North Forest, Youngs and Hopkins that do not have sidewalks in all areas, forcing residents of those neighborhoods to walk in high-traffic streets, getting away with not receiving summons like my neighbors and I have been receiving this winter season?

The Town of Amherst doesn't shovel all the sidewalks on town properties, which I've witnessed in the Town of Amherst. Is the town just trying to raise more for its coffers by harassing residents.

This is just another reason, along with being raped by high taxes, having a lack of good job opportunities and stagnant housing values for the last 10 years, to leave Western New York.

When do all the negatives stop?
