Veterans Services director named Erie County Executive Chris Collins has tapped Williamsville resident Patrick W. Welch to serve as Erie County's new Veterans Services director. Welch is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Adaco Services, LLC in Williamsville, where he is responsible for sales, marketing, client training and business development. He has more than 40 years of private sector experience and earned both a doctorate in international business and a master's degree in business administration in hospitality management from Rochville University. Welch is a retired sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He is president of the Vietnam Veterans of American WNY Chapter 77 and is an elected officer of the National Board of Directors of Vietnam Veterans of America. Welch has been honored with the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross, among others. "As both a decorated veteran and a successful businessman, Patrick Welch will bring invaluable experience to the Office of Veterans Affairs," Collins said. "There are currently over 80,000 veterans living in Erie County. Under the leadership of Patrick Welch, these brave men and women will have a strong and determined advocate in Erie County government." Collins added that he was confident Welch will use his business background and training to maximize the office's limited financial resources to provide the best possible service to current veterans and the newest generation of veterans returning home from both Iraq and Afghanistan. "As a Vietnam War veteran, I know the struggles some veterans face after returning home from service," said Welch. "I also know the importance of providing our aged veterans with excellent health care and ultimately, a proper and respectful burial. I am looking forward to working with the county executive to increase the role and mission of the Office of Veterans Services, and I appreciate his confidence in my abilities. I consider it an honor to work on behalf of Erie County's veteran population." Collins also announced a proposed local law to restructure the Office of Veterans Services. Under the proposal, the Veterans Services director will once again report directly to the county executive and be responsible for developing the office's budget. The proposal also sets the staffing for the office, establishing a director position and the appropriate staff to serve the county's veteran population. The proposed law was sponsored by 2nd District Legislator Timothy Kennedy. |
