Volunteers needed at Weinberg Campus

A variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups are available at Weinberg Campus, 2700 N. Forest Road. Opportunities include program assistants, centerpiece designers, deli servers, visitors, gift shop attendants and office assistants. Call 639-3311 ext. 2125.

Pottery, art classes offered at Artyard

Art competition seeks student submissions

The 2008 Congressional Art Competition is accepting submissions from high school students from Erie County. Winning students selected in May will have their artwork displayed in the Cannon Tunnel. Options include painting, drawing, collage, print, mixed media, computer-generated art or photography. Pieces will be selected at the county level, then the district level. Noted sculptor opens show at CFI

Artist and sculptor Tony Paterson will host a free gala reception and art opening at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Center for Inquiry, 1310 Sweet Home Road. Paterson will present "Sex, Bronze, and the Human Form," an exhibit of 35 years of sculpture. There will be live music throughout the evening; refreshments served. Garden Club seeks new members

The Federated Williamsville Garden Club is seeking new members. The club meets at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month and the purpose is to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening and flower arranging and to provide outreach service to the community. Projects include working with residents of Bassett Manor Adult Residence and involvement with the Clearfield Library and the Lehigh Walkway Memorial Trail. Call 688-6296 or 741-4461.

Amherst Garden Club to meet

The Amherst Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at St. John's Lutheran Church 6540, Main St., Williamsville. Refreshments will be served followed by the Business Meeting and a short Horticulture talk entitled "Pergolas, Arbors, and Trellis - what is the difference?" The program at 11:15 a.m. is "Genetically Engineered Food," presented by Eveline Hartz, chair person for the World on your Food Plate.

Daemen SPTA to hold charity gala

The Daemen College Student Physical Therapy Association will hold its third Annual Charity Gala on Saturday, March 8 at Classics V Banquet Center, 2425 Niagara Falls Blvd. The event will benefit Buffalo Bill Brian Moorman's PUNT Foundation which provides assistance for children and their families who have been affected by cancer. Tickets are $25 per person and include hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dessert with cash bar, basket raffle, and live music Route 66. Call 839-8345 by Monday, Feb. 25.

Volunteers sought for Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels WNY is seeking volunteers to join the Driving Force Volunteer Team as a volunteer shortage in Buffalo has people on a waiting list for meals. MOW delivers a hot lunch and cold supper to 1,600 homebound elderly and disabled people daily. Volunteering requires approximately one hour per delivery day. No special skills or training is needed. 'Why We Fight' featured at CFImovie night

The Center for Inquiry's February movie night will feature the 2005 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary "Why we fight." Comedy group tackles religious morality

The Cat Venom comedy group will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Center for Inquiry, 1310 Sweet Home Road, across from the University at Buffalo campus, Amherst. The troupe, led by improv instructor Marc Condon, presents a uniquely witty collection of improvised skits focusing on a wide range of social and political issues. Past themes have included a "Creationist" show and a "Church and State" show. This month's theme will be "Religious Morality: We're right, now you must die." Museum sets new book club season

The Amherst Museum Fiction Book Club will have its first meeting of the new season Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the museum, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road. The book for discussion is Toni Morrison's "Beloved." Amherst museum quilters call for entries

The Amherst Museum Quilters Guild is accepting entries from members and non-members for the guild's Biennial Quilt show to be held Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27. Mixed media art class set at JCC

Parenting class set for six weeks

The six-week parenting class "Making Children Mind without Losing Yours" led by Gayle Bosch will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting Feb. 21 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4007 Main Street, Eggertsville. Scholar to speak on African humanism

The Center for Inquiry continues its Spring Speaker Series with "Stories of Africa through the Lens of Secular Humanism," presented by Goddard College dean and academic vice president Kabba E. Colley, Ed.D., at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29 at the Center, 1310 Sweet Home Road, Amherst. Colley's research interests focus on race and gender issues in science, after-school science programs, project-based science instruction and international education. St. Leo the Great to hold fundraiser

St. Leo the Great School, 903 Sweet Home Road, Amherst, will hold the $10,000 Solution Raffle from 7 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, Feb. 23.
