North girls, boys earn fifth places Williamsville North's girls and boys indoor track teams each took home fifth place at the Section VI Team Championships last Saturday at Fredonia State College. The girls scored 35 points. The boys scored 33 points. The North girls were led by Sarah Mikulski, who won the hurdles in an 8.73 FAT. Shelbey Gray took seventh with a personal best time of 9.52 in the semifinals (top six score points). Dawn Hu took third in the racewalk in 8:42.9. Rachel Dorogi broke the school record in the 3000-meters, running a time of 11:25.6. The old school record was 11:29 set in 2002-03 by Mia Symoniak. Kim Berus broke own her own record in the 1000, going 3:14.10 to take fifth. Her old record was 3:14.1. Caitlin Triantafillou qualified for sectionals in the 600 with a sixth-place time of 1:47.70. Emily Curry high jumped 4-10 for second place. Gray high jumped a personal best 4-6. Raven Baxter long jumped a personal best 15-8.5. North's 4x800 of Dorogi, Triantafillou, Catlin Curry and Berus placed fifth in 10:41.10. Michele Bauman, Gray, Megan Winkle and Baxter teamed up to take fourth in the 4x200 relay in 1:56.30. Boys The North boys were seventh in team scoring until Sean Felton tripled jumped a personal best 42-9 to vault the team into fifth. Felton's highest triple jump prior to Saturday was 42-4.25. Felton also had a personal best in the long jump, going 20-9.5 for third. Steve Oehler ran 8.15 FAT in the hurdles for third. Mike Thielman ran a personal best 10:16 in the 3200 to take seventh. The 4x200 relay of Collin Preston, Oehler, Evan Hughes and Sinclair Johnson won in 1:41.20. Tom Calandra went 10-6 in the pole vault for sixth. Ryan Perry (1000, 2:56.5) and Rob Golightly (600, 1:34.7) ran personal best times. |
