East's Geiger, North's Lin win sections title

Matt Geiger took home top honors in the 100-yard backstroke at last Thursday's Section VI Swimming Championships at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
The Williamsville East junior won the race in 54.07.
Geiger also placed fifth in the 200 individual medley in a personal best and state qualifying time of 2:04.11. The time was second in the "B" division.
The New York State Championships are Feb. 29 and March 1 in Long Island.
Sophomore Michael Anderson placed fourth overall and third in the "B" division in the 500 free in 5:01.30 and sixth overall and fourth in the "B" division in the 200 free in 1:50.69.
Teammate, senior Neil Batta, swam personal bests in the 200 free (1:50.91) and 100 free (50.07). He took ninth in both events.
Senior Kane Hsieh, who won the 100 breast at ECICs a week earlier, took sixth overall in the event and third in the "B" division at sectionals in 1:03.81.

Junior Brad Kim took 19th in the 100 breast in a personal best 1:08.04.
Freshman Kevin Fan placed 22nd in the 100 back in a season best 1:02.34.
The 400 free relay of Batta, Anderson, Fan and Geiger went a season-best 3:29.68 to place 13th overall and fourth in the "B" division. Batta, Anderson, Hsieh and Geiger swam at trials.
The 200 medley relay of Geiger, Hsieh, Taewook Kang and Greg Zaloom came in 10th overall and second in the "B" division in 1:47.22.
Joe O'Gorman scored 289.35 points to take fifth overall and third in the "B" division in 1-meter diving.
East took ninth overall with 129 points.
Geiger (200 IM, 100 back) and Hsieh (100 breast) will compete at states.
Williamsville North
Michael Lin won the 200 IM in a state qualifying time of 1:57.53.
Lin also placed second in the 100 free in 48.45.
Chris Arcara took second in diving with 421.55 points.
Michael Burns came in fourth in the 100 breast (1:03.11) and 21st in the 200 IM (2:14.88).
Robby Novak placed sixth in the 500 free (5:05.43) and 13th in the 200 free (1:55.39).
Brandon Long placed 19th in the 100 fly (58.58) and 21st in the 50 free (24.16).
North's 200 medley relay of Lin, Burns, Long and Novak came in sixth in a time of 1:43.75.
The 400 free relay of Lin, Long, Novak and David Chojnacki was eighth in 3:33.76.
The Spartans were sixth in team scoring with 134 points.
Amherst Central
Jacob Hofmar-Glennon took sixth in the 100 back (57.56) and 20th in the 200 IM (2:14.58).
Sweet Home Connor Hoffman came in 15th in the 100 back (1:01.41).
