Workshop set for parents of students with disabilities

Williamsville Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association is hosting a workshop on Parent Advocacy in Action at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Williamsville School District offices, 105 Casey Road, East Amherst.

Questions to be addressed include, "Do you know how to effectually advocate for your children? Want to influence decision-makers?"

Kathy McCarthy-Proulx of The Advocacy Center in Rochester will talk about collaboration and team building, developing a vision, effective communication strategies and efficient record-keeping.

All attendees will receive the Families Hold the Vision working manual. For more information, e-mail septsaweb@ gmail.com or call Dave Whalen at 565-9338.

McCarthy-Proulx is recognized statewide as a parent advocate. For more than 20 years, she has trained parents on how to successfully represent their children's needs and interests in the Committee on Special Education process.

Williamsville SEPTSA advocates for students with exceptional education needs, including disabilities and giftedness, at all grade levels within the Williamsville School District.
