Alert neighbors catch alleged burglar

It started with a Corfu Circle resident who on Sunday noticed a suspicious man riding a bicycle and then entering a neighbor's garage.

The complainant yelled out, "What are you doing?" and the man left.

The victim was notified and realized that personal property had been tampered with and was missing.

On Monday, another Corfu Circle resident noticed a man riding a bicycle who matched the description of the suspect. He followed the man, who went to a home on Fairgreen Drive.

Amherst police responded to the home and interviewed the suspect.

Joseph Frieh, 46, was arrested on one count of burglary.

"This was excellent work by the citizens and good follow up by the officers," Assistant Chief Timothy Green said. "These alert neighbors made it a lot easier to catch the suspect."

The arresting officers were, Kevin Maria and Lawrence Wanat.
