Four Western New Yorkers representing the National Kidney Foundation of Western New York recently won a national golf championship.
Bowmansville's Mike Campbell, HSBC Bank, USA Inc.; Williamsville's Michael Howard, ophthalmologist with Atwal Eye Care; Clarence's John Miosi, Miosi Builders, Inc.; and Williamsville's Peter Weinstein, Safetec of America, Inc.; won the Platinum Division of the 2008 NKF Golf Classic National Finals with a low gross of -46.
The NKF Golf Classic National Championship was held in Pebble Beach, Calif., from Jan. 17 to 21. More than 60 teams, all successful competitors at regional NKF tournaments across the United States, competed in the finals of the premier golf event for charity. The NKF Golf Classic raises millions of dollars annually to fund programs and services to support patients afflicted with chronic kidney disease and their families.
"What an honor to have a team from Western New York bring home the national championship," said Darrel Lloyd of KLW Group, NKF of Western New York Golf Classic Chairman and vice president of the board of directors. "It is terrific for the NKF of Western New York to be in the national spotlight."
This was the 15th consecutive year that the NKF Classic National Championships welcomed amateur golf teams from across the country to play the fairways and holes of the Monterey Peninsula: Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay and Del Monte, as well as the renowned Poppy Hills Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones II design that has been voted the Public Golf Course of the Year.
The NKF is a major health organization seeking to prevent kidney and urologic diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of organs for transplantation.
