Pack 444 derby winners named

Amherst's Cub Scout Pack 444 held its annual Pinewood Derby Race on Jan. 26 and had several heats with first-, second- and third-place winners.

Winners were: Ethan Duffy, finishing in first place, and Jacob Janish, in second place, for the Tigers. In the Wolf Den, Eric Silverberg took first place; Wesley Vance, second place; and Alexander Stoj, third. For the Bears, Sam Floriano was first; Joe Duffy, second; and Peter Ruber, third. For the Webelos I Den, John Whitecar took first; Kyle Tyrone, second; and Joe Guppenberger, third. For the Webelos II Den, Robert Leising was first; Mark Olson, second; and Alex Wordford, third.

In the Grand Finals race, Whitecar was first; Robert Leising, second; and Mark Olson, third.

Zachary Burk took the Kids' Choice award with his iPod car; Devin Stecher won for most realistic; and Duffy was awarded most original. The Leader's Choice awards went to David Wojtkowski's swimming pool car and to Ethan Milich's fish tank car.

Pack 444 also held a family race for parents and siblings. First place in the Grand Finals went to David Olson, second place to Benjamin Leising and third place to Whitecar.
