STUMPED - How many papers can we make in an hour? How many articles can I write in a day? Twenty? Do I get to go to China?

These were questions a group of Scouts asked me at Heritage Heights Elementary School on Thursday when I spoke to them about my job. I thought I could impress them with my tales of riding in a helicopter or meeting Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, but they were more concerned about how fast our printing machines worked. Unfortunately, I didn't have an answer for them, but that didn't stop them. They wanted to know not only how many papers are printed in an hour, but in a month, three months and in 10 years. My answer was, "Ummm ..."

WALL OF HEROES - The Shafer family of Amherst wants to start a Wall of Heroes in the town. Catherine and Audrey Shafer have proposed the idea to Supervisor Satish Mohan and are now seeking information for all veterans, active duty and deceased members of the military, who have served or are serving in the current war in the Middle East. Information is being collected now with a projected dedication day in May to coincide with Memorial Day. William Shafer, is with the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division and is serving in Iraq.

VOLUNTEER - The Upstate New York Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is seeking volunteers for its annual Walk MS. This year's walk is Saturday, May 3 in Buffalo.

Volunteer check-in begins as early as 7 a.m., and the Walk MS steps off at 10 a.m. Volunteers can participate in a variety of ways, including registering participants, hosting rest stops, distributing information, helping with food and beverage management, monitoring the Walk MS route and assisting with the cleanup afterward. Walk MS is the Upstate New York Chapter's largest fundraising event of the year. The event is anticipated to raise $1.6 million dollars across the state with 21 different Walk MS locations.

Funds raised from the event are used to support research efforts, programs and services to more than 12,000 individuals with MS and their families in Upstate New York. To volunteer, call 1B-800-FIGHT-MS (1-800-344-4867).

V-DAY - The Boulevard Mall will celebrate Valentine's Day with a concert by Terry Buchwald, presenting "A Tribute to Elvis." He will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the mall's food court, 730 Alberta Drive.

The American Heart/American Stroke Association will offer Valentine's Day gift wrapping Feb. 10-14 at the Center Court of the mall. All proceeds benefit the local chapter of the association.

TOWN DIRECTORY - The Amherst libraries are creating a directory of Amherst-based clubs, organizations and associations.
