Medaille College will host a six-week spring training 2008 baseball program for players in grades 1-12 from Jan. 20 to Feb. 24.

Medaille College head coach Ron Nero will direct the program in conjunction with Midwest Baseball Academy.

Sessions are offered in advanced hitting and pitching at a cost of $99 for six weeks. Space is limited.

Joe Kling, a St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute graduate and Getzville resident hit 6 for 9 from the field on his way to 14 points and seven boards in the Geneseo State College's men's basketball team's 64-60 loss to Cortland State College.

The WNY Umpires Association will be holding its new candidate certification clinics beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Williamsville South High School, 5950 Main St. High School and rec league umpires are needed for the spring and summer.

Williamsville South graduate and Williamsville resident Spencer McIntyre tallied 15 kills, a 406 hitting percentage and seven digs in D'Youville College's three-game sweep over tenth-ranked Eastern Mennonite on Jan. 27. D'Youville has won two-straight over nationally ranked top-10 opponents.

Williamsville North JV wrestlers Mike Pitz (103), Bill Pitz (135) and Tim Beck (152) all won at their weight classes at the ECIC JV Championships last Saturday at Amherst High School.

Other place finishers were Mark Brooks (140, second), Andy Booth (112, third), Mackie Gage (125, fourth), Jeremy Abbarno (135, fourth), Jamie Sperazzo (145, fourth) and Javier Mejia (189, fourth).

Amanda Bihr, a Williamsville East graduate and Williamsville resident, finished with 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field and 2 of 4 from three-point range in the Geneseo State College women's basketball team's 68-54 loss to Buffalo State College last Friday.

Williamsville North graduate John Bauman, a sophomore at the University at Buffalo, broke the UB school record in the 600-meter run at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge last weekend at Penn State University.

Bauman ran a time of 1:20.42, breaking the mark set moments earlier by teammate Ryan Zillmann.

Meredith Parenti, 11, of Williamsville, and a member of the Holiday Valley Ski Race Team, placed fourth in the JIV division of the United States Ski Association sanctioned slalom race held at Peek N' Peak Resort on Jan. 6. Parenti also placed third in the USSA sanctioned giant slalom race held at Holiday Valley Resort on Jan. 13.
