East boys swimmers improve record

Williamsville East's boys swimming team improved its record to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in ECIC Division II with wins over West Seneca West, 116-57, last Tuesday and Hamburg, 109-71, last Thursday at Transit Middle School.

East's final regular season meet against Iroquois, originally scheduled for 5 p.m. last Friday at Iroquois Middle School, has been postponed because of weather until Thursday, Feb. 7. East and Iroquois are each 4-0 in ECIC II. The winner will earn the division title.

East posted many first places against West Seneca West and Hamburg.

Winners against West Seneca West included Greg Zaloom (200-yard freestyle, 2:05.38); Kane Hsieh (50 free, 24.64); Thomas Mitchell (100 free, 55.84); Mike Anderson (500 free, 5:12.03); and Brad Kim (100 breast, 1:11.35).

Kevin Fan (200 IM, 2:26.31); Joe O'Gorman (diving, 187.20); Neil Batta (100 free, 51.68); Zaloom (500 free, 5:42.30); and Hsieh (100 breast, 1:03.57) won against Hamburg. Matt Geiger was a double winner in the 100 fly (56.40) and 100 back (55.91).

Prior to the Hamburg meet, East's four seniors, Batta, Hsieh, Jeff O'Gorman, and Rohin Sethi were honored.

Joe O'Gorman represented East in the diving competition at ECICs on Tuesday at Sweet Home but the results were unavailable before The Bee went to press. ECIC swimming will be held on Wednesday at Sweet Home. The large schools swim at 2 p.m.
