Opera-Lytes set 'romantic' Valentine's concert

The Opera-Lytes will hold its annual Valentine's Concert with an evening of romantic Broadway ballads at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Snyder.

The concert will also include refreshments.

Opera-Lytes is a light-opera group based in Amherst. For 14 years, the group has staged Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and vintage Broadway musicals throughout the area, most recently at the Lancaster Opera House, Ujima TheatreLoft and the Alleyway Theatre.

The Valentine's Concert will feature 35 Opera-Lytes members singing loves songs and choral favorites from the Broadway stage.

The program will include arrangements of such heartfelt melodies as "Try to Remember" from "The Fantasticks," "You are Love" from "Showboat," and "You'll Never Walk Alone," from "Carousel," along with tunes from "South Pacific," "The King and I," and other Broadway shows.

The concert is a benefit for Amherst Community Church. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door in advance by calling 837-3440. Reservations are strongly encouraged as space in the church is limited.
