SUPER-STITIOUS - The New York Giants outplayed the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Well, more credit goes to the Giants' defense. But with any sporting event, luck and superstition are often considered factors. In August, I bet my boyfriend, Dan, on who would have the better record - Bills or Giants. Needless to say, I bought dinner.

During the playoffs I supported his G-men. Going into Sunday's game I was still cheering for New York. We sat at his friend's house, and it appeared I might witness the first case of a look actually killing. When another Giants' fan happily announced, "It's over," meaning the final Giants' touchdown would clinch the game, Dan whipped his head around and with disgust and shock asked, "Why, would you say that!?" With Tom Brady at the helm I had to agree it was risky. Luckily, there was no jinx.

After the game I admitted to Dan that near the end of the third quarter I was thinking that maybe I was a good luck charm, as I had been referred to throughout the playoffs. But never would I say that aloud in a 3-point game. When he jokingly asked if I would fly down for the ticker-tape parade, I said I had done my part as a Giants' fan and was now done.

AND THAT HAS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE - I arrived home last Tuesday night, contemplating where to park my car. With wind gusts expected to reach 60 mph, I carefully chose a spot without any large trees near it. I picked one on the other side of the street. And the winds came as expected. The next morning, I was basically blown to where my car was parked. When I drove around the cul-de-sac I saw a tree lying in one of the spots where I usually park my car. I took a picture, as proof of my smart planning, and continued on my way to work. I turned on the radio and heard a commercial that was just ending. The tag line was, "Sometimes you just need a lawyer." I was thinking, thankfully, sometimes you don't.
