Sweet Home, East hockey stuck in log jam for top public school spot in Fed's Division II

Tigers split league games in weird ways

The Tigers opened it with a thrilling 67-64 home victory on Monday over Cheektowaga, which included three shots that fell from half court or longer, and ended with a free throw filled 55-42 home loss last Thursday versus Depew.

North wakes up, defeats Lancaster, 65-43

      It took until midway through the second quarter for Williamsville North to get going against Lancaster last Friday at home but once they did, it was all Spartans. Tied at 16-16, North outscored Lancaster, 16-5, over the last four minutes of the first half to lead 32-21. They won 65-43.

Boys win handily, North girls beat Lady Billies by one pin
      Williamsville South's boys bowling team roared to victory in the Williamsville Cup last Thursday at Transit Lanes. South defeated Williamsville North and Williamsville East in the five-man competition. South had 2,797 pins followed by North (2,479) and East (2,156).

      After trailing Iroquois, 24-20, at halftime, Williamsville South's girls basketball team decided it was time to start playing. The Lady Billies played a flawless third quarter en route to a 55-44 road win last Tuesday. South outscored Iroquois, 22-4, in the third quarter.

      The North Buffalo Bantam Minor Bisons defeated the Depew Saints, 5-1, over the weekend. Goalie Conner Naughton faced 17 shots for Buffalo as the offense peppered Depew with 33 of their own. The Bisons got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Jordan Rusek (Eric Adolf).

      Trey Buscaglia led the Stumpf's Gymnastics Center boys Level 4 team at the Upstate meet in Rochester. Buscaglia placed first all-around with a score of 54.70, taking first on floor exercise and high bar. Josh Reinstein had a solid performance with a second-place finish on vault.

Buffalo United boys' U14 takes first at tourney
      The Buffalo United boys U14 "White" team took first-place honors in the Sahlen's Sports Park Friendlies Tournament held on Sunday. BUSC won all three of its qualifier matches and went on to defeat the Rochester Football Club, 1-0, in the championship game.

      The Town of Tonawanda Titans competed in the Niagara District Senior IMX meet Jan. 26-27 in Webster. Thirty-three Titan swimmers took part in the two-day meet. Titans athletes achieved 57 lifetime best swims and set three new club records.
