Squirt Minor 'AA' falls in Top Gun finals The Amherst Minor Squirt "AA" gave a tough St. Catharines squad all they could handle Monday morning at the Pepsi Center but could not post a second consecutive win over their Canadian neighbors, losing 3-1. Matt Federau got St. Catharines on the board early but before the first came to a close, Ben Levy evened the score. The second was all St. Catharines as they got goals from Gavin Di Maria and Rylee St. Onge. Knights goalie Cam Carney was solid in goal as he blanked the visitors in the third and hoped for a rally that never came. Squirt Minor 'AA' 2, St. Catharines 1 The Amherst Squirt Minor "AA" won its way into the finals of the Top Gun Tournament. Cam Carney was a wall in goal for Amherst. He turned aside a barrage of St. Catharines shots to lift his team into the championship game. Amherst built a 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Zac Kozlin and Josh Knauf. Connor Bender and Chris DiRienzo added assists. Mitchell Young cut the lead in half for St. Catharines, scoring at the 5:04 mark of the first. Carney took over after that, foiling St. Catharines repeatedly as the visitors attempted to score the equalizer. Rochester 3, Squirt Minor '''AA' 1 In their third game of the Top Gun Tournament, the Amherst Squirt Minor "AA" found themselves on the losing end of a 3-1 decision against Rochester. Rochester got on the board first on a goal by Quinn Schrader. Nick Carbone scored Amherst's lone goal in the second as he tallied unassisted. Nick Charron and Schrader, with his second, scored in the third for Rochester, dropping the Amherst Knights to 2-1 in the tournament. Squirt Minor 'AA' 2, Perinton 1 The Amherst Squirt Minor "AA" ran its Top Gun Tournament record to 2-0 with a 2-1 victory on Saturday at the Pepsi Center. Ben Reichert opened the scoring in the first for Amherst with Aaron Bengart and Zac Kozlin picking up assists. Perinton tied it moments later on a goal from Anthony Giggie. The second period was scoreless as both teams looked tentative. Early in the third, Connor Bender potted the winner with Jordan Jenneve and Kozlin providing helpers. Amherst goalie Cam Carney shut the door after that to preserve the win for the Knights. Squirt Minor 'AA' 4, Buffalo Saints 0 The Amherst Squirt "AA" opened the Top Gun Tournament with a 4-0 victory over the Buffalo Saints. Jordan Jenneve opened the scoring in the first, converting a pass from Ben Reichert. Nick Carbone followed with two unassisted tallies in the second as Amherst built a 3-0 lead. Jenneve closed out the scoring in the third, notching his second on a feed from Connor Bender. Amherst netminder Jacob Siegel was solid between the pipes for the Knights, posting the shutout. Squirt Minor 'AA', Clarence fit to be tied The Amherst Squirt "AA" earned a point in a league game last Tuesday against a Clarence squad that gave them all they could handle. The 1-1 tie unfolded as Clarence took the lead in the second on a goal by Griffen LoVullo that was set up by Michael Adonnino. Amherst countered midway through the third on an unassisted marker by Nick Carbone. Clarence peppered Amherst goalie Cam Carney with numerous close range shots but were unable to get the winner past him. |
