'Teen Idol' first round set

A preliminary round of the "Amherst Teen Idol" search will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Boulevard Mall Food Court on Alberta Drive in Amherst.

The contest is open to amateur youths ages 12 to 20.

Fifteen finalists will be chosen to compete in the final round that will take place in March. Finalists will compete for the first prize of a Boulevard Mall gift certificate and an "Amherst Teen Idol" trophy. Second prize is a gift certificate and second-place trophy.

Contestants will be asked to sing an a cappella song of their choice, up to two minutes in length.

The contest is sponsored by the Boulevard Mall and the Amherst Youth Board.
