Indoor track
by PATRICK J. NAGY Reporter

Sacred Heart's girls indoor track team kept its unblemished record in tact with a first place finish last Saturday at Lancaster High School's Fieldhouse.

The Sharks improved to 14-0 lifetime in indoor track meets against Monsignor Martin Association teams with a team score of 120. Holy Angels came in second with 86.

"I didn't know what I was going to have so it's been a real pleasant surprise," said Sacred Heart coach Rod Sarkovics. "It's a good measure of how we might be in the outdoor season."

The Sharks won six of the nine events. Junior Melissa Naab won the 50 in 7.01 and led off the Sharks' winning mixed relay team which also included Ginamarie Mule, Erin Wattengel and Brittney Gibbons. The team won in 8:20.

Gibbons was a double winner, taking home first in the long jump in a leap of 12-10 and the 600 in 1:55. Sarkovics said Emily Tutak and Mule went 2-3 in the 600. Mule also won the triple jump in 28-0.5.

"She has given us a big boost in the jumps," said Sarkovics. "I wasn't sure who we were going to have there to pick up the slack after the Piecuchs (now the team's jumping coaches) graduated."

Kim Patterson won the 1200 in 4:40. Mary Russell came in third.

The Sharks' 4x150 relay of Christine Loftus, Alyse Madison, Lyndsay DelGrosso and Naab finished second.

Jessica Moses came in third in the shot put.

The final indoor meet is Feb. 9 at Lancaster.
