Charles J. Kolb Jr., superintendent of Donner Hanna Coke Joint Venture Buffalo

Charles J. Kolb Jr., 75, of Amherst, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at Sisters Hospital.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Kolb was a member of the first graduating class of Bishop Timon High School in 1950. He attended St. Bonaventure University for two years.

He started as a sweeper for Donner Hanna Coke Joint Venture in Buffalo in 1953 and worked his way up to become the youngest to hold a superintendent position. He also worked for the Buffalo Public Schools as an independent contractor from 1982 to 1988.

Mr. Kolb was a member of St. Leo the Great Church, a member of Romeo's and a life member of the Buffalo Canoe Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; one son, C.J. III, of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Karin Venditti, of Wilton, Conn.; one sister, Susan Carroll; and two grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, Jan. 21 at St. Leo the Great Church. Arrangements were made by the John E. Roberts Funeral Home.
