Workshop for parents of students with disabilities to be held on Jan. 31

The Williamsville Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association will hold a workshop on guardianship, wills and special needs trusts for parents of minors with disabilities at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Transit Middle School, 8730 Transit Road, East Amherst.

The presenters are financial adviser Daniel Kautz and attorney Lisa Allen. The workshop will provide information on when and how to apply for different types of guardianships, what provisions both parents need in their wills, how an estate passes without a will, differences between probate and nonprobate assets, the uses and benefits of special needs trusts, funding of trusts and asset management.

Williamsville SEPTSA advocates for students with exceptional education needs, including disabilities and giftedness, at all grade levels within the Williamsville School District. It provides information and support in a team effort - students, parents, teachers, therapists and administrators - working together to provide quality education for all children.
