Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation accepting applications for grants The Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation Inc. has funding available for organizations and projects that would aid in fulfilling its mission of promoting the welfare of senior citizens in the Town of Amherst and helping to maintain and raise funds to support senior services and activities in the community. Catharine M. Weiss, foundation president, in making the announcement, said the 15-year-old foundation is now "prepared to reach out into the community to any other agency that may be involved in projects with goals similar to ours." There are approximately 32,000 seniors, 55 and older, in Amherst. There are several parameters within which grants will be awarded. For example, the foundation does not give grants to individuals, including scholarship aid and fellowships; give grants toward operating expenses, deficit financing or endowments; or give grants to housing or residential care communities. "Generally speaking, grants over $7,500 are not awarded," Weiss said. Those interested in applying for funding should contact the foundation at 370 Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228 or call 636-3050, ext. 125. The foundation's Allocations Committee will review applications within 30 days of receipt, and a recommendation will then be made to the board of directors. |
