South grad's Web site designed to create educated voters

      Like many Americans, Alexander DiNunzio, 20, is frustrated with election 2008 and understanding the presidential candidates' views. (See editorial on page four) But unlike many Americans, he did something about it. He created a Web site to educate voters.

Supervisor Mohan to present State of the Town on Jan. 25
      Amherst Supervisor Satish Mohan will present his 2008 State of the Town address on Friday, Jan. 25 during the Amherst Chamber of Commerce's annual luncheon at Classics V Banquet Center. The public is invited to attend and learn about Mohan's plans for the town in 2008.

Mohan hopes for new Town Hall in two years

      Supervisor Satish Mohan said the departments housed in the current Main Street Town Hall have outgrown the building and a new and larger one is needed. He has proposed erecting a new Town Hall in the next two years, at a cost of no more than $10 million.

     James M. Marone conducts the Sweet Home High School symphony orchestra during a concert held Jan. 17 in the auditorium. Also performing that evening were the wind ensemble, chorale and women's chorus.

Border crossing requirements to change next week

      As the date nears when more identification will be needed to cross into the United States from Canada, Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R-Amherst, is asking for stricter punishment for Department of Motor Vehicles employees who tamper with identifications.

Amherst officer apprehends robbery suspect
      A car chase that started in Cheektowaga ended in Buffalo on Jan. 16 but only after leading several agencies into Amherst. The HSBC Bank at 4237 Union Road, near the Kensington Expressway, was robbed at gunpoint around 10:30 a.m.

Two arrested for theft of catalytic converter
      During a routine traffic stop in the 8200 block of Transit Road, Officer Tom Barillari noticed something unusual in the back seat of the vehicle - a catalytic converter. A rash of thefts of catalytic converters had recently been reported in town.
