East boys swimming wins last three meets Williamsville East's boys swimming team ended last week on a three-meet win streak. The Flames followed a 107-76 loss on Jan. 4 to Clarence with wins over Jamestown, 109-59, on Jan. 7, Lancaster, 98-83, last Tuesday, and Sweet Home, 122-57, last Friday. Against Jamestown, juniors Matt Geiger, Greg Zaloom and Brad Kim and sophomores Mike Anderson and Thomas Mitchell each won its events. Geiger won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.36. Zaloom took first in the 200 freestyle in 2:07.12. Kim was the best in the 100 breast in 1:14.18. Anderson took first in the 200 IM in 2:12.89. Mitchell won the 500 free in 5:34.20. Anderson was a double winner against Lancaster, taking first in the 200 free in 1:56.53 and 100 fly in 1:02.94. Zaloom won the 500 free in 5:56.55. All three of East's relays won against the Redskins, led by the 200 medley relay of Geiger, and seniors Kane Hsieh, Neil Batta and Jeff O'Gorman, who went 1:49.51. East posted two double winners versus Sweet Home. Geiger won the 50 free in 24.20 and the 100 back in 56.45 and Anderson went 1:56.56 in the 200 free and 1:10.69 in the 100 breast to place first. Other winners for East against the Panthers included Hsieh in the 100 fly in 1:04.43, Batta in the 200 IM in 2:15.24 and junior Joe O'Gorman in diving with a score of 172.20. Sweet Home was led by junior Collin Sabers, who won the 500 free in 5:52.48, and juniors Jonathon Wolf, Ryan Gilinger, Sabers and sophomore Connor Hoffman, who took first in the 200 free relay in 1:45.76. Against Clarence, Anderson won the 200 free in 1:57.45 and swam a personal best time of 5:08.97 in the 500 free. He also teamed with Geiger, Hsieh, junior Taewook Kang and Anderson to win the medley relay in 1:50.02. Geiger won the 200 IM in 2:10.13 and 100 back in 55.84. Hsieh took first in the 100 breast in a Transit Middle School pool record of 104.82. East swam Williamsville North on Tuesday but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press. They swim at 5 p.m. on Friday at Frontier. |
