But this past weekend was tougher. I only predicted two victors, Green Bay and New England. But, technically, I won three times. I was watching the Giants versus Cowboys game with a diehard Giants fan so I had to cheer for them - even though I picked Dallas to win. I was happy to be wrong. As I watched my friend pace the living room, often walking away from the TV in the final quarter, I realized how much I missed that tense feeling - the days of when a game actually counted. My mom used to always say that January is a pretty boring month when you don't have a team in the NFLplayoffs. I would have to agree, but sometimes becoming a temporary fan fills a void when your team just can't get it together. The last time we saw our hometown team in a playoff game was January 2000 - the Music City Miracle. Ouch. I miss the days when I had to leave the room in the final moments of a game or clutch my hands together, praying for the Bills to pull off a win. I even miss the days of when a loss was gut-wrenching, not expected or meaningless. Next week, I am sticking with my two victors from this week - the Packers and Patriots. Luckily I won't be watching the game with my friend so I can cheer for Brett Favre in what's predicted to be another frozen tundra. Plus, how could I continue to root for a team that won in the Bills' first Super Bowl appearance? • DRIVERS EDUCATION - The Park School of Buffalo, located at 4625 Harlem Road in Snyder, is offering spring driver education this year. The spring driver education program is a comprehensive program providing each student with six hours of behind the-wheel training, a minimum of 18 hours in-car observation and 24 hours of classroom lectures. Partnering with AAA Western and Central New York, the Park program offers Saturday classes beginning Feb. 2. The cost for spring driver education is $425 per student. Driver education requires each student to attend the lecture classes and driving labs. One- and one-half-hour driving labs are available at various times in the driver education vehicles. Students must be at least 16 years old prior to the first day of the session and must possess a valid driver permit or license. For additional information, visit the Park Web site at www.theparkschool.org and click on programs or driver education, or call the school at 839-1242.
