Snipers, Cougars win it all

The fall 2007 season in Buffalo In-line Hockey League Group concluded on Dec. 29 with the top-seeded Cougars winning the Junior Division and the Snipers winning the Major Division.

The Cougars, led by coach Paul Dressel, had been on top of its division from week 1 and found themselves against the Black Knights and Kevin Eberth in the championship game.

When the dust had settled, Evan Dressel, Cory Friedly, the Juhasz brothers, P.J. Anders, Ben Speyers, Jay Gilani, Joey Wegalarski and Ricky Jacobs had an 11-9 win and a Junior Division championship.

The Snipers had a different story. The seventh seed by virtue of its regular season performance, the Snipers had two upset wins before facing the David Campuzano-led Vikings in the final. Coach Tom Wright rallied his team to another stellar effort in a 9-6 victory.

Eric Wright caught fire in the playoffs, and the rest of the team, Wright, Rob Russell, Josh Vaccaro, Zac Robinson, Ben Weber, Dylan Moran and Dean Duprey, along with goaltender Tyler Anderson, were the Major Division 2007 fall season champs.

The league also announced its postseason awards. The Junior Division MVP was Evan Dressel, winning his second career MVP award. The Major Division MVP was Pat Smith. It was his first award.

The all-league performers were: Major Division: - forwards Campuzano, Smith, Taylor Setlock, Justin Swain and goalie Tyler Anderson; and Junior Division: forwards Dressel, Eberth, Nick Antoniadis, Adam Terragnolli and goalie Ricky Jacobs.
