Lady Tigers tame Wildcats

Amherst Central's girls basketball team used its back court pressure to force Depew into several turnovers and outscore them 36-16 in the second half in a 69-39 home win last Friday.

Amherst led, 35-23, at halftime.

"It was an all-around team effort to beat a well-rounded Depew team," said Amherst coach JoAnna Fildes.

Depew was 4-1 in ECIC III, 5-1 overall.

Senior Jenny Newhouse led Amherst with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Eva Lankes and Jequana Roberts each chipped in 12 points. Amy Simon followed with 11 points.

Amherst (6-4, 3-3) played at Williamsville South on Tuesday but the result was unavailable before The Bee went to press. They play at Tonawanda at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
