Ceiling fan sparks attic fire

A defective ceiling fan was listed as the cause of a fire on Rinewalt Street which resulted in approximately $55,000 in damages.

Amherst Fire Control received a 911 call at 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 from the resident of 67 Rinewalt Street resident who stated that the ceiling fan in her second floor bathroom had started on fire and spread to the attic.

The Williamsville Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, which was contained to the attic of the two-story wooden frame house.

The structure itself sustained $35,000 in damage with another $20,000 in content destruction. The second floor also sustained water damage.
