Kathie and Stephen Gesseck of Naugatuck, Conn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Carole Gesseck, to Brian Louis Herzbrun, son of Marta and Philip Herzbrun of Williamsville.

Miss Gesseck graduated from Naugatuck High School in 2000. She received a bachelor's degree in education and English literature from Elmira College in 2004 and a master's degree in special education from The City College of New York City in 2007. She is a fifth-grade teacher in the South Bronx.

Her fiance graduated from Williamsville South High School in 2000. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration with a dual specialty in marketing and management from Elmira College in 2004. He is an assistant manager with Wells Fargo Financial in Paramus, N.J.

An August 2008 wedding at The Empire Club in Little Ferry, N.J., is planned.
