Carroll named comptroller

Man accused of breaking arm, legs of infant girl
      Amherst police have arrested a Denrose Drive man for allegedly breaking a 6-day-old girl's legs and later her arm. Assistant Chief Timothy Green said William Smielecki, 23, was arrested on Jan. 3 and charged with felony assault in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Towns with totes see complaint decrease

      In the fight against rats, totes work. Erie County Senior Public Health Sanitarian, Peter J. Tripi, said the towns and villages that use garbage totes have recorded a decrease in rodent complaints.

     TURNING OFF THE LIGHTS - It stayed "white" around Amherst just long enough for Christmas as Jim Lauffeenburger takes down holiday decorations from his North French Road home in the rain on Saturday. The week registered record high temperatures for the month.
