Letter carrier arrested for theft

The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General has confirmed that an employee from the Amherst Post Office was arrested for theft of mail.

Apryl M. Silvashy, a part-time letter carrier, was arrested on Dec. 19 and accused of stealing mail. She has been released.

Agapi Oulaveris, spokeswoman for the OIG, said the case is being investigated and further information was not available.

The offense could be punishable by a fine or jail time up to five years or both.

Oulaveris could not confirm the contents of the mail and if money was taken.
