School News The Middle School Service Club recently held its sixth annual Food for Friends Food Drive, which benefited the Western New York AIDS Alliance Food Bank. Throughout the week, a "friendly" competition took place among the grade levels and the faculty to see who could contribute the most pounds of food. The sixth graders took the top spot bringing in a total of 821 pounds, the faculty took second place with 615 pounds, and third place, with a total of 238 pounds, was taken by the eighth grade class. The seventh grade class brought in a total of 139 pounds. A record amount of food and/or dry food items totaling 1,813 pounds was distributed. The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Volunteer Foundation and the Buffalo Chamber Music Society are accepting applications for 2008 scholarships. The Volunteer Foundation "Young Musicians" $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 scholarships, and the Chamber Music Society's "Silverman" $1,000 scholarships (up to three this year) are available for Erie County high school seniors planning to major in music at any college or university in the fall of 2008. Applications, including audition tapes, must be postmarked by Feb. 9. Forms are available at: www.bpo.org and www.ecmea.org. Call 885-0204. Kim Mayo and Kelsey Johnson from Williamsville North High School participated in the Harkness Career & Technical Center Early Childhood Program's toy drive to benefit the Buffalo News Neediest Fund. The donations were collected and packaged by the students. |
