Oasis Organizing Solutions will save time, reduce stress

by JESSICA L. FINCH Associate Editor

Shanon Jacobs Shanon Jacobs Statistics vary, but it is believed that humans spend four to six weeks a year looking for items in their homes, cars and workspaces.

Being organized isn't a skill everyone can claim to have, so for those who don't, Oasis Organizing Solutions can help.

Owner Shanon Jacobs has been operating her business for two years and recently added a new organizing tool: Digital Asset Inventory Service. The service is a detailed inventory used for insurance and estate planning purposes.

Jacobs, a professional organizer, helps clients create a catalog of in-depth item descriptions and serial numbers, value, scanned copies of bills of sales, documentation verifying worth, photographs and/or video.

"There is a lot of information to collect, photograph and assemble the inventory," she said.

The final catalog is compiled as a digital file on compact disc and a bound catalog, to be stored safely.

In the event of disaster, such as a fire, the owner would have the inventory completely documented and could simply e-mail the file to the insurance provider.

"During a disaster, it's hard to recollect details; this gives peace of mind," she said, adding that the process takes about one to two days, depending on the size of the collection.

The basic idea of being organized can be too much to deal with for many people — much like the mounds of clutter Jacobs comes across in offices and homes.

"I have noticed with clients that the paperwork, there are crazy amounts, it's overwhelming," she said.

She helps with any room that needs to be organized, including kitchens and closets.

"We clear away the clutter, and they are able to locate things," she said about working alongside the client. "I work with each individual on their preferences. I need to find what makes sense for the clients, so they can keep it up."

Her efforts are worth it, she said, noting that all her clients have reported back, saying, "I have never been so organized."

She added that they also feel happy in their homes and offices.

The first step is to prioritize and see what needs to get done. Time management is a huge element — rethinking how to use time.

Jacobs helps people rethink how they have been doing things and start new habits.

"Clear the clutter, clear your mind. Reclaim your space and time," her Web site reads.
