Audubon complex occupants want to see bus route established
      The Amherst Audubon Complex is a major hub in the town, housing the Senior Center, Main Library, police department and courts — but there is no public transportation to get there. Each of the facilities are in constant use by not only town residents but those from surrounding areas.

      After what Trustee Jeff Kingsley described as a disappointing week involving the board's relationship with the Industrial Development Agency, Monday night's Village Board meeting restored hope in the future of the Mill.

Woman reports attempted abduction
      The Amherst Police Department is investigating a possible attempted abduction in the Twilight Lane area of East Amherst. Twilight Lane is a suburb off of Casey Road, between Paradise and Transit roads. The female victim reports that she was in the driveway across the street from her residence, putting her child on the school bus, about 7:45 a.m. Monday.

Dick Chambers ends career at Williamsville South High
      He has been everyone's helper at Williamsville South High School for almost 40 years and seldom asked for anything in return. Richard Chambers — known to most as Dick — will retire Friday after 38 years of employment with the Williamsville School District.

Schad steps up to long-time politician
      Democrat Jerry Schad is challenging Assemblyman Jim Hayes, R-Amherst, for his seat — and believes, in this important election year, he can win. He said he wanted to announce his candidacy after the primary, which reduced the candidates to Hayes on the Republican, Independence and Conservative lines and Paul E. Brown on the Working Families line.

Police warn of rabies threat
      The Amherst Police are alerting the public to a possible rabies threat in Amherst State Park. A fox bit two females in the area around the park. On Tuesday, Sept. 16, around 2 p.m., a woman was in the gazebo near Reist Street when a fox ran at her and bit her on the shin. Later, around 7 p.m.

Arrest made in attack on Allenhurst
      Amherst Police have arrested Samuel Reed, 29, of Buffalo, charging him with menacing and harassment after allegedly attacking a woman on Allenhurst Street. The 21-year-old victim told police she was walking from a bus stop near her home when a man came out of nowhere, grabbing her by the throat and choking her.

Phyllis Kelly (nee Matheis), 87, formerly of Amherst, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008.
