Police warn of rabies threat; two women bit by foxes
Residents asked to 9-1-1 if animals, people bit by wild animal
The Amherst Police are alerting the public to a possible rabies threat in Amherst State Park. A fox bite two females in the area around the park. On Tuesday, Sept. 16 around 2 p.m., a woman was in the gazebo near Reist Street when a fox ran at her and bit her on the shin. Later, around 7 p.m. a second woman was bit when a fox jumped on her lap while she was sitting near the park entrance at 400 Mill St.

Arrest made in connection with home burglaries
Amherst police detectives Matthew Gould and Herbert Leisang's investigation into three home burglaries in the Main-Transit section of town led them to a teen living in the area. Open house set at Sacred Heart

Board adds $500,000 toward Gramercy Park fund

A "critical" action was taken at Monday's Town Board meeting to address the town's flooding issue. Gov. David Paterson has signed into law the "Bruce Kershner Heritage Tree Preservation and Protection Act." The measure, sponsored by Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R- Williamsville, chair of the Senate Tourism Committee, is aimed at protecting the remaining old growth trees and forests in New York State.
