Congress, Senate elections will determine Democratic candidates
      With two longtime Republican representatives retiring from the political scene, several Democrats are hoping to fill majors seats in Congress and the Senate. The primary election will be held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, and Democrats are the only major party going to the polls in Amherst.

The journey begins
     Tuesday was the first day of classes in the Amherst Central School District, and the LaPrade family was able to walk to Smallwood Elementary for the occasion. 'Evening in Village' to feature dining, shopping, entertainment
      The Village of Williamsville's annual "Evening in the Village" will highlight some of Main Street's best shops, dining and entertainment from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6. Events will take place along Main Street from approximately South Cayuga Street to Garrison Road.

Association of Realtors against options to raise condo taxes
      In light of the recent controversy regarding patio homes in Amherst, the Buffalo Niagara Association of Realtors is restating its position regarding its opposition to any increase in taxes regardless of the form. "Taxes are the greatest impediment to progress in Western New York," said Jim Knight, 2008 presi of the BNAR.

      Greg Bennett admits he was the most surprised man in the world when he found out his uncle had willed his stately home on Main Street to him. When he stepped inside and took a more detailed look at all that was now his, his jaw dropped.

Amherst School Board seeks to fill vacant seat
      The Amherst Central School Board needs to fill a vacancy. The resignation of board member Laura Meyers Rogerson this past summer has left the board with six members. The board wants to fill the vacancy by appointing an individual to serve for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year. The complete three-year term of the seat runs through 2009-10.

Marian R. Dye, 102, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at her home in Williamsville. Born Feb. 10, 1906, daughter of Anna and John Miller, Mrs. Dye was a lifelong resident of the area. Graduating from Academy Street School, Mrs. Dye was the last remaining member of the class of 1924. More...
