      Obeying the speed limit in a work zone, and remaining alert and attentive while driving is not a revolutionary idea. Everyone is aware of the possibility of serious accidents on the road. However, it is easy to be in a hurry and ignore common safety practices.

Out of the Past
      125 Years Ago Aug. 9, 1883 On last week Wednesday, as Mr. John P. Snyder was driving past Weingardner's, near the old Catholic Cemetery, his horse became scared at a dog which ran out to the road, and suddenly shied to one side, throwing Mr. Snyder out. He clung to the reigns however, and stopped the animal.

Special legislative session set for Aug. 19
      Gov. David Paterson has called both houses of the New York State Legislature back to Albany for a special economic session on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The purpose of the session will be to consider a package of recommended cuts to the state budget in an attempt to lessen the impact of an estimated $6 billion deficit next year.
