Western isn't quite the lacrosse powerhouse that Long Island is, but it does have a healthy success ratio at the Empire State Games. That's what made this year's fourth-place finish for the men's team such a heartbreaker. Western was on a three-year medal streak, after taking bronze in 2007 and 2005 and silver in 2006.

ESG — Field Hockey
It doesn't make much sense to look at the final standings of the field hockey competition and see that Western won the bronze medal with a 1-4 record, when Central went 2-3 and got nothing.
