Town Centre traffic concerns are valid

As someone who has been in favor of the Town Centre project, I felt I had heard and read enough to make a knowledgeable opinion. That was until I heard Larry Hunter speak at the Town Board meeting the night they approved the rezoning.

Mr. Hunter, who is on the Amherst Traffic Board, gave an extremely informative presentation with pictures and facts about existing traffic problems in our town and the dangers that may result if the Town Centre project is built on Maple Road.

He showed how putting traffic signals close together, the way Benderson wants to do it, can result in gridlock, blocked intersections and red light running and make it dangerous for people trying to cross the street. I hope Mr. Hunter is wrong about this happening on Maple Road, but if he is correct, I think I came to the wrong conclusion and a lot of people are going to wonder how our Town Board could have let this happen.

With the price of gas going up every day, and more and more people using bicycles, especially University at Buffalo students, I think the project would have been better suited for Millersport Highway. Barbara Anger Amherst
