Amherst Chamber names 2008 Small Business Award winners
      The Amherst Chamber of Commerce has named the winners of its 2008 Small Business Awards. The Chamber annually recognizes small businesses - those with 50 employees or fewer - from around the region for their success, innovation, customer service, philanthropy and ethical standards.

A Wok restaurant under new ownership
      China native Jason Zulin came to Amherst to attend the University at Buffalo and upon graduation reopened the Chinese restaurant in the Quality Plaza at Main Street and Union Road. A Wok Chinese Restaurant boasts an extensive menu created by De Yun Wang, who has more than 20 years experience as a chef.

YMCA honors employee of the year
      The Northeast Family YMCA has named Janet Puleff of Amherst as the 2008 Employee of the Year. Puleff has been the school-age child-care site coordinator at Clarence Center Elementary and Sheridan Hill Elementary Schools since 2005. Puleff uses "excellent leadership skills to run these sites with high member-satisfaction scores.

      The Brain and Spine Center has opened an Infusion Center in its headquarters location at 400 International Drive. The center provides individualized infusion services to patients by an experienced clinical team to provide comprehensive care while working closely with primary care physicians to manage patient care.

      Electronics recycling day set in Buffalo In celebration of Earth Day 2008, Erie County and the City of Buffalo will hold a computer and electronics recycling drop-off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Central Park Plaza on Holden Street in Buffalo. Items accepted free of charge will help keep lead from poisoning landfills.

      Gaines Kriner Elliott LLP, based in Amherst, has announced the election of four partners, all certified public accountants: Michael T. Vanderwerf, Michael D. Jozwiak, Jeffrey H. Couchman and Denise M. Neamon. Jozwiak came to the firm as a result of the merger with J.D. Elliott and Company in January 2004.

Reynolds: middle-class Americans have suffered enough
      Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Amherst, blasted House Democrats for their failure to pass legislation that he said would help millions of Americans avoid the alternative minimum tax next year. Reynolds pointed to the Democrats' delayed action last year on fixing the AMT for one year.

Gala will be 'All That Glitters'
      The Alzheimer's Association's 14th annual Blue Moon Gala will take place from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo. This year's gala, with the theme "All That Glitters." All proceeds will support programs and services of the Western New York Chapter, headquartered in Williamsville.
