Village to recycle Christmas trees

The Village of Williamsville will once again sponsor Christmas Tree recycling.

The drop off point for the trees is the Department of Public Works lot on South Long Street next to the Train Depot. The lot is marked with a sign at the lot, as well as one on Main Street directing residents to the drop off area.

Used trees will be collected now through the second week of January.

The DPW will grind them up as time permits and use them in the Village. If residents are interested, they may also take some once they are ground, according to Mayor Mary Lowther.

"The Village residents use a surprising number of live trees and we always get a good response for the recycling efforts," Lowther said. "Plus it saves a lot in trash collection costs which are billed to the Village by the ton."

This is the third year the Village has offered to recycle tree grinding for residents.

For more information about the program, call Lowther at Village Hall at 632-4120 ext. 3006.
