Sports briefs Williamsville resident Eric Winner was selected to the Continental Hockey Association all-star team. Winner is a goalie for the Buffalo Stars. The CHA all-star game will be held the weekend of Jan. 19-21 in Binghamton. The St. Leo the Great boys varsity basketball team (2-2) finished strong for a 49-36 win against Covenant Academy on Dec. 10. Tied after the first quarter, the Lions pulled ahead with standout scorers Tyler Re (12 points,) Brian Bannister (11 points) and Mike Cerza (10 points). Coach Paul Cerza was proud of his team's efforts. In the second half, the Lions put on a tough press and capitalized on turnovers to win. Getzville native Victoria Licata of the Fencing Center of Buffalo qualified for the Junior Olympics at last Saturday's qualifying events in Rochester. Licata qualified in Cadet FOIL. The Cadet division is for fencers under 17 years old. The Junior Olympics will be held Feb. 15-18 in Charlotte, N.C.
