St. Greg's eighth grade girls hoops stays undefeated

The undefeated St. Gregory the Great eighth grade girls' varsity basketball team won 37-12 over Christ the King this past weekend.

The Cougars defense came up big, led by Nicole Favre, Alisa Vacanti and Ali Gilbert, holding CTK to only two baskets for the entire first half. The Cougars offense was relentless, led by Maria Patnella's eight points.

Scoring six points each were Julietta Gervase and Whitney Krantz. Catherine Suchan contributed five points. Lisa Harb, Mary Kate O'Connor and Claire Mangano were sinking bombs from the outside, scoring four points each.

St. Greg's wins opener

Led by coaches Dr. Richard Gilbert and Jill Gervase, the St. Greg's girls eighth-grade varsity basketball team won its season opener last Tuesday over St. Andrew's, 36-14.

St. Greg's defense, led by Alisa Vacanti, Maria Patnella and Whitney Krantz, held St. Andrew's to one basket through three quarters.

The Cougars' offense was unstoppable, led by Lisa Harb's 11 points and Ali Gilbert's eight points.

Mary Kate O'Connor (five points) scored two fast-break baskets. Julietta Gervase and Nicole Favre contributed four points each, while Katherine Suchan and Claire Mangano's relentless efforts under the offensive boards netted them two points each.
