• HELP PICK SONGS FOR NEW
CD - Local vocalist Mark Weber is
planning to record a CD of cover tunes
redone in a pop-jazz-soul vein with
pianist Dusty Knapp. Weber has listed
35 songs on
www.myspace.com/thereisahope and is
encouraging the public to copy and
paste the list into an e-mail, and send
their comments and e-mail suggestions
to him. You can also e-mail

of songs.
• SONG ON CD - Local singer
Mark Weber has a song, "Who Wants
To Cry at Christmas?," on the Buffalo
Musicians Against Autism benefit CD,
"My Favorite Gift Is You." The CD is
available at Record Theatre and other
stores.
• RESIDENT CONDUCTOR -
Buffalo Philharmonic Resident
Conductor Robert Franz has been
named the Houston Symphony's new
associate conductor. Franz will take over
the position in June of 2008. He will
retain his BPO position and coordinate
his responsibilities and time between his
job here and his new position in
Houston. Franz, who has been with the
BPO since 2006, created a
comprehensive education concert
program, reaching 35,000 students a
year, tripling the number of young
people that the BPO reaches annually.
He also leads the BPO in its Family
Series concerts and many of its Pops
Series concerts.
• LOCAL ROCKER GAINS
NATIONAL ATTENTION - Adam
Zadok has advanced to the
semi-regional finals in FUSE TV's
BODOG Battle of the Bands after two
rounds of performing live in front of
three judges and Cleveland, Ohio,
audiences. Cleveland's House of Blues
will host this national event on Jan. 20,
2008. BODOG's Battle of the Bands
covers North America, narrowing more
than 4,500 participants down to 10
unsigned bands vying for a $1 million
recording contract with the company.
• HOLIDAY SCHEDULE - The
UB Anderson Gallery will be closed
from Dec. 24-Jan. 1. The offices will be
open by appointment only during that
time. The UB Art Gallery will be closed
from Dec. 23-Jan. 1 and will reopen
Jan. 2.
• VOLUNTEERS RECOGNIZED
- The North Tonawanda History
Museum presented certificates of
recognition to 79 individuals and
organizations at its Dec. 8 "Forgotten
Holidays" (Dutch) program. The
individuals and organizations were
recognized for their contributions to the
4-year-old museum, located at 314
Oliver St., North Tonawanda.
• GRANT AWARDED - The
Center for the Arts at the University at
Buffalo has been awarded a $287,182
grant by the John R. Oishei Foundation
to establish a program that will bring
the performing arts and artists into
healthcare settings to enhance the
healing environment for patients and
caregivers in Western New York. The
Center for the Arts' Arts in Healthcare
initiative is being established in
collaboration with Women & Children's
Hospital of Buffalo, a Kaleida Health
facilit y.
• BROADWAY PERFORMANCE
- Teen2Teen Theatre Company, a
not-for-profit organization that uses
theater as a means for teaching racial
tolerance, self-esteem and cultural
diversity to WNY and NYC youth,
performed at the New Amsterdam
Theatre on Broadway in New York City
on Dec. 17 and 18. Seventeen local
youths between the ages of 14 and 18
sang, danced and acted in the "Gypsy"
production, which showcased all the
current Broadway casts in the single
largest fundraising Broadway
performance of the year. Teen2Teen is
the only non-Broadway theater company
that was asked to perform.
• PEACE BRIDGE BOOK - The
Buffalo and Erie County Historical
Society is the exclusive United States
distribution point for "Peace Bridge:
The Dream and its Evolution" by Mike
Cloutier, a book celebrating eight
decades of the Peace Bridge between
Buffalo and Fort Erie, Ontario. The
book is a hardcover coffee table book
and is available for $24.95. All proceeds
from museum shop sales of the book
will go to the Historical Society, 25
Nottingham Court at Elmwood Avenue,

• GRAYCLIFF AWARDED
GRANT - The Graycliff Conservancy,
Inc. received a $350,000 grant from The
Margaret L. Wendt Foundation. The
funds will be used to further the
restoration of the Graycliff Estate,
designed by noted American architect
Frank Lloyd Wright.
• AWARD - Darien Lake Theme
Park Resort has received a 2007 IAAPA
Big E Award for its newest show, "Le
Grande Cirque." The International
Association of Amusement Parks and
Attractions is the largest international
trade association for permanently
situated amusement facilities worldwide.
Darien Lake's LaserBlast, an evening
laser and fireworks show, received an
honorable mention award in the
category for Best Spectacular
Production.
• TICKET PRICES CHANGES -
Road Less Traveled Productions is
offering four new ticket categories:
General admission ($25), seniors ($20),
under 30 ($15), and students ($10).
RLTP has also changed its Free Student
Thursdays to Talkback Thursdays ($5

Gallery is seeking submissions for its
annual Members' Exhibition, to be held

SOUGH T - Award-winning
playwright Susan Anner is the new
director for Road Less Traveled
Productions' New Play Workshop.
Anner's work has been performed in
New York, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and
Washington, D.C. RLTP's New Play
Workshop is their training ground for
future playwrights. It provides the local
theatre community with the next
generation of playwrights from Western
New York. RLTP is presently accepting
submissions for its 2008 New Play
Workshop. The deadline is Dec. 20.

Tonawanda History Museum has
received six orders of its first full-length
book on the history of North
Tonawanda, "North Tonawanda: The

standalone index for the book. Museum
representatives realized that not all
purchasers would need an index, and
decided to produce a separate index to
retain an affordable publishing price,
