East wins dual matches Williamsville East's wrestling team opened its dual match season with two non-league victories. The Flames won at Royalton-Hartland, 39-20, last Wednesday and knocked off Sweet Home, 49-15, last Friday. "Between these two wins and winning the Maple Grove Tournament, it's been a good way to start the season," said East coach Henry Fumerelle. "We have a saying we use for the football and wrestling team that champions are built in the offseason. Our start shows how much time the kids have put in the offseason." Winners for East against Roy-Hart were: Ben Mikac (112, 10-5); Jacob Beichner (125, pin in first period); Max Cohen (130, pin in first period); Matt Calleri (135, 4-2); Sean Trabert (140, pin in 13 seconds); MP Joseph (189, pin in first period); Paul Morales (215, 2-1). Flames who won against Sweet Home were: Sam Beichner (103, pin); Mikac (112, forfeit); Ryan Cravatta (119, 8-2); Jacob Beichner (125, pin in second period); Ben Bermuda (130, forfeit); Cohen (135, 4-2 over Gage Bateman); Brandon Munoz (152, 2-1); Jayson Dieckman (160, pin in third period); Will Kelly (171, pin) and Joseph (189, 9-1). Sweet Home's Matt Danwin and Nic Stella each improved to 6-0. Danwin defeated Calleri 2-1 at 140. Stella pinned Trabert in the second period. Mark Orlowski earned a first period pin at 215 for Sweet Home as did senior Vinny Paterno at 285. Zach Fumerelle, who wrestles for Sweet Home and the nephew of East coach Henry Fumerelle, was sick and did not compete. East (2-0) hosts Starpoint on Wednesday and travels to Lake Shore on Friday. Both meets start at 6 p.m. Sweet Home (0-1) hosts Orchard Park at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Stella will be competing in the Sheetz Holiday Classic this weekend at Penn Cambria High School in Pennsylvania. e-mail: pnagy@beenews.com |
